Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco’s sustainable practice philosophy is to generate an authentic, rich guest experience putting climate and culture front and center with a local economy and ecology of international significance. As Monteverde leads the way in doing sustainable tourism right, Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco is an active community member ensuring its continued success.
We have been awarded with the CST (Sustainable Tourism Certificate) by the ICT (Costa Rican Tourism Institute), which reaffirms our commitment to sustainability.
We have others certifications as SICCS (Central American Integrated System of Quality and Sustainability), for being committed to efficient and sustainable management
The hotel is passionate about reducing our environmental impact and creating positive economic and social effects for the community and believes that sustainable hospitality practices enhance our guest experience. In addition, we invite our guests to be part of this movement as part of our commitment to education and sharing our knowledge.
Sustainability is an ongoing and dynamic process. Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco is committed to implementing the latest practices in conserving the environment, and the community’s socio-economic well-being, and preserving local culture and traditions.
Here are some of the sustainable practices in place presently:
– Recycling program in every department of the hotel
– We believe we are responsible to the local community that provides us with employees and supports us with business. Some of the activities or initiatives we do within the community include:
- Employing community members. 95% of our staff are from the area
- Participation and sponsorship in community volunteer programs
- We participate in community organic fertilizer production programs
- Solar Panels installed to offset our use of grid-connected energy usage
– Water saving program and treatment plan
– Use of energy-saving light bulbs
– We minimize using single-use plastics and packaging throughout the property, kitchen, restaurant, and rooms.
– Re-usage of packaging and office materials and our “print only if absolutely necessary” philosophy in place.
– Use of biodegradable cleaning supplies
– We invite guests to reuse their linens and towels minimizing laundering, and offer energy and water-saving tips.
– A commitment to sourcing organic, free range, fair trade, and sustainably farmed produce and products from local producers.
We involve and invite the client in being part of sustainable practices (recycling, changing towels and linens only if needed, turning off unnecessary lights, participating in community volunteering).
